Hi there. I recently established the multisite wordpress platform on my blog, but whenever I create a subdomain, it does not allow me to view/edit or anything actually. It shows me that the site cannot be found.

After reading a few posts, I understood that I need to create a Multisite WildCard Subdomain, so the subdomains can work. The problem is that Im hosting my site on the Godaddy deluxe hosting package and I cannot seem to find the way to create that wildcard subdomain option.

I would greatly appreciate if I get some help on this issue.

After creating the wildcard and the test subdomain, I understand that I need the domain mapping plugin, so I can redirect the subdomain to my newly purchased domain. I hope Im right, Am I?

So the only problem I have bugging me for two days straight now, is how to create that wildcard subdomain with godaddy. Thank you in advance!

Update: I just saw that godaddy doesn’t allow the creation of a wildcard. They said in a support forum that you have to create the subdomains one by one.

I just created another subdomain manually, from their Cpanel. However, whenever i try to access it, it gives me 500 Internal Server Error. What is happening?!

Wohoo!! I got it to work! Okay, I know I seem like a crazy person here, talking to myself, but I guess this can be helpful for the ones trying to create a second site, on their wordpress multisite, if they’re hosted on godaddy deluxe package.

You have to create the subdomain manually, point it to the directory, where your main site is present, then go to the wp-admin board and create the site with the same domain you’ve just created in the godaddy panel. The 500 internal server error is gone. I placed the theme. Now all it’s left is to use that domain mapping tool!

    Wish me luck!

You’re not crazy. I have the exact same problem. The issue started last Thursday (9/6).

I’ve been attempting everything lately, including the mapping option and just stumbled upon your resolution before reading this post.

I’m still hesitant about creating a subdomain manually, but here it goes! Good luck!

Also, before Thursday everything was working fine on my multisite. Must have been something they changed at Godaddy recently.

Tell you the truth, their site was down a couple of days ago, so maybe something got triggered then. But it works man. I don’t really understand why creating a second wordpress site should be so difficult, but it is what it is.

Create your subdomain manually, point it to the same directory as your primary blog. Then go in the superadmin and create the subdomain there, with the same name as the one you’ve created in godaddy.

That seemed to work for me!

Unless you have a dedicated IP, GoDaddy has never supported wildcard subdomains. You’d have to ask them why it magically stopped working, but at a guess, there was an incorrect setting on your host which they fixed.
