  • Hi Richard,
I checked that for you and it seems Wordfence doesn’t work well with mapped domains multisite installation, I will quote part of the system requirements here:

Wordfence is not compatible with multi-site installations that are using domain mapping. We have seen problems with scan scheduling specifically causing additional scans to be scheduled. You may also experience other issues if you attempt to use Wordfence on a domain-mapped multi-site installation.

Check the full list of system requirements here.

    Thanks.

I have a multisite with mapped domains. Does anyone know if plans exist to make Wordfence compatible with multisite mapped domains? If not, does an alternative plugin exist for multisite security with mapped domains
    Thanks,
    Larry

    Hi Larry,
Actually, the only issue we know when using (Wordfence on multisite installation with mapped domain) is that sometimes scan schedules are set for every sub-domain instead of one scan for the whole website.

I have an installation with mapped domains under test now, and I’ve already scheduled a scan for the next hour, I’ll make sure to let you know what I got so far, of course it will be nice if you can give it a try as well and let us know how it goes.

    Thanks.

    Hi wfalaa,

I’m very interested in the answer to this as well. I have transitioned most of my sites to a few multisites with domain mapping, to consolidate the administrative overhead.

I am seriously interested in Wordfence, but would need to be sure that it will work reliably in this scenario.

    Thanks

    Hi Wfalaa,
Thanks for your encouragement to use Wordfence in a multisite with mapped domains. I planned to try it once I get more feedback such as on your test. What is really the difference between setting scan schedules for every sub-domain and setting a schedule for the whole site? Does this mean sometimes some sub-domains/folders are missed for scanning? The documents also say “You may also experience other issues if you attempt to use Wordfence on a domain-mapped multi-site installation.” What might these issues be?
Thanks for helping us with multisites,
    Larry

PS: I notice this thread is marked “resolved”. Does that mean we should be starting a new tread on this subject?

    Hi,
Actually, you could see additional scans scheduled for your sub-domain website, that’s the only problem I know though!

Although domain mapping is not fully supported yet, scheduled scans worked fine at my end, you could give it a try and let us know if you encountered any issue to be taken in consideration when we support it, and “Yes”, it will be helpful if you can open separate support thread for new issues you may get.

    Thanks.

    Hi,
I have been waiting for Wordfence to fully support multisites with domain mapping before installing the plugin for that use. Does a time-frame exist for offering full support?
    Thanks,
    Larry

    Hi Larry,
It should be working fine now, we have also updated “WordPress Multi-Site Compatibility” on our documentation.

Let us know if you encountered any problem with Wordfence on mapped domains.

    Thanks.

    Hi wfalaa,
I been using Wordfence now for about a month on my multisite with mapped domains and have no noticeable problems so far.
    Thanks for a great plugin,
