    Hello,

I am having a difficult time setting up 2 sites hosted locally in Wamp. I am paying for a hosting service, but do not currently use it. If it would be easier to install WordPress on the server and run it that way I am open to suggestions. I also cannot currently log into my Wamp and work on my site locally. I tried to use the directions below and got to the second to last step before throwing in the towel. Can someone please advise me on what to do?

    Thanks

    Hello wordpress buddies,

I’m a wordpress newbie, I am not yet familiar with blogging and most of all, the admin page of wordpress.

But when it comes to installing ready to use script like wordpress, I am so familiar with it.

So, for the guys and gals who want to fiddle around with multiple localhost wordpress install. This one’s for you.

    Let’s begin…

    1. First of all, I’ve used Windows XP 32bit PC for this mini tut.

    2. Second, download this packaged file. It contains the necessary files to run multi-wordpress sites.

    3. After downloading all files, Install wamp if you still not done it yet. Make sure you install it to your d: drive, so that the install path shall look like this one: D:\wamp

    4. After installing wampserver, test to see if it’s working well. Access local host, by typing it in your browser. You’ll see a page similar to this one
    4. Now extract the wamp.rar packaged file, and copy httpd.conf and paste it over to D:\WAMP\bin\apache\apache2.2.22\conf and overwrite the existing file.
    5. Copy httpd-vhosts.conf and paste it over to D:\WAMP\bin\apache\apache2.2.22\conf\extra overwriting the existing file.

    6. Copy hosts and paste it over to your system32f\drviers\etc folder
You can access that folder by typing this %SYSTEMROOT%\System32 in the run command, found in start menu. You must have enabled “Show hidden files and folders” and had unchecked “Hide protected operating system files” option from the folder option view menu.

  • Are you using Windows XP?

I hope you downloaded from the official WAMP site instead of some site you happened to find on the internet. The Apache version given is very old.

” I also cannot currently log into my Wamp and work on my site locally.”

What do you mean by that?

Can you access your WAMP main page by typing this into your web browser?:

    https://localhost

If you did not download from the official WAMP Server site, there is no telling what you installed on your computer. I have never used WAMP, I use XAMPP. Look it up.

Ok. First off follow these instructions to install WAMP and WordPress locally.

    https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-install-wordpress-on-your-windows-computer-using-wamp/

Then all you have to do is rinse and repeat. Create a new database and a new wordpress folder in the wamp/www/ root the type it in.
