Multisites & subdomains, help needed

  • Hello. Can someone please point me out to a complete guide on setting up multisites and subdomains? Whether i do it from cpanel or from wordpress, no matter which tutorials i follow, i always have problems… Right now, after finding no way to make it work how i wanted with wordpress, i went back to adding subdomains to my primary domain with cpanel and installing wordpress in them, but i dont see any themes or plugins get carried over, its looks like i just created a separate domain… How can i make this whole thing work? Any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance. Here is the primary domain and the subdomain btw:

  • The only real “trick” to it is setting up the sub-domains in cPanel.

    All you have to do is create the subdomain and have it point to the main root folder of your main site instead of it’s own folder structure. The best way to do that is set up the subdomain as an “add on domain” (from memory) and that will do that for you. Once that’s done (and any DNS is set up for that sub-domain as required) it will “just work” with your Network set up.

    @catacaustic Thanks for your response, could you clarify where to do that add on domain from memory thing? Cause i tried the “create a new domain” on the domains section of cpanel, as well as add a new site from the my sites section of the primary domain, yet all i got is a new site that doesnt load themes or plugins from the primary domain.

    @catacaustic could you also let me know what i gotta know about that DNS stuff? i thought that was up to my host and it supposedly takes care of that and supports multisites, is there some extra configuration i gotta do on my own or so?

    The bit thing is the checkbox for ‘Share document root’. Set that and the subdomain will resolve to the same folder as your main site.

    For DNS, you may need to add records to point the subdomain to that server, but you also may not. It depends on your hosting and domain set up. You will need to check with your domain registrar and hosting service to find out what needs to be done for your individual site.

    @catacaustic thanks for your response, i ve done all these things but i still dont see no themes or plugins shared in the subdomain…. i guess the problem has to lie with the host or something then
