Has anyone figured out a straightforward method of controlling these things?

Multisite, to me means multiple websites(subsites). Yet, when a new user tries to register on one of the subsites they get redirected to another website, the multisite root. This is not the action expected of a CMS that claims to manage multiple sites. Its more like a single site with multi-themes and shared plugins.

Toolbars! What the hell? When a user creates an account to leave a comment, for example, they are given a toolbar that looks completely out of place. I do not understand why the default of such a popular CMS would merge the admin theme and the frontend theme.

I know, there are thousands of plugins and fixes to adjust these things but so far I have not found a solution that addresses everything at once. It seems to me that the whole method of casual users creating accounts and interacting with a subsite needs to be addressed simultaneously.

www.ads-software.com, a multisite, isn’t showing the toolbar to logged in users like me. Did they hack their own CMS? Can someone please share how they deal with hiding toolbars and registering new users in the frontend?

You’re creating a network of sites, which means they’re all somewhat connected, but the content is separate.

Registering users are redirected to the network root. Per site registration is possible via plugins like https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/join-my-multisite/

The toolbar would be there, single site or not.

Because not everyone wants all of them.

Go to the actual multisite part of it: make.www.ads-software.com ?? Enjoy.

Im logged in right now and I didn’t see the toolbar there.

But you did create a plugin that seems to partly address the issue I brought up so I assume there is demand for a solution. I went through that plugins support page and other people were asking similar questions.

It really should be called WP Network then rather than Multisite.

It seems like such an obvious requirement, user registration handled by the domain you are registering with, that I just don’t want to give up on the possibility that it will be implemented in the near future or some developer creates a complete plugin.

Multiple Sites on a Network? It used to be called WP Multi User, so in may ways this is a step up ??

Under 100 people use the plugin I linked you to (that, yes, I wrote). There’s demand. It’s very small. Not enough to consider it something to put in core WP, in my opinion. That’s why WordPress is extendable.

Multisite, to me means multiple websites(subsites).

That’s exactly that it is. I use Multisite to run five totally separate sites. They’re even separate domains ?? One install of WP, though, so it’s way easier to upgrade/control.

Yet, when a new user tries to register on one of the subsites they get redirected to another website, the multisite root.

They’re registered to the network, because either they didn’t create a site or you don’t have a place to send them. They have to go somewhere right? So in lieu of their own site, they go to the Network Main. That’s all.
