must be a real idiot – need help

If you installed WordPress manually, then you would have had to visit your domain (or https://www.sample.com/wp-admin/install.php) to complete the install.

If you installed WordPress in your web-root folder, public_html, then you should be able to login to your blog’s administration at https://www.sample.com/wp-login.php.

Okay, I obviously didn’t install correctly or all the way. I followed the 5 minute install. I did steps 1-4 and maybe messed up on step 5? The last thing I did was upload files in FTP. So, after I upload files I needed to visit https://www.sample.com/wp-admin/install.php? I’m pretty sure I didn’t do that. So, my next step is to type that https://www.myurl.com/wp-admin/install.php into the browser?
