• Hello,
I have a problem with configuring additional domains on WP with multisite option. I configured WP and turned on multisite option. I installed domain mapping tool. I added new site. I can access that additional site via full path of primary domain.

What I can’t figure out is how to configure domain and WP to have additional site with domain (subdirectory of parent domain should be home directory of domain2). I read about 20 pages with instructions how to configure domain with static IP. I don’t have static IP and I believe most of WP users don’t have IP address on shared hosting.

I just don’t understand why there is no manual for that. I really like WP since 3.0 is published. I postponed to use multisites but now I have need for that. I have hosting at GoDaddy and I know that everyone will say that GoDaddy is very bad for WP multisite.
I an interested to find out what would you do on another “better” hosting if multisite is configured with subdirectories?

Can someone help with instructions what should be configured.

    Thank you in advance.

Then you need a multiple network plugin. not domain mapping.

Domain mapping gives an alternate domain for any site.

Multiple networks gives the ability to make another network in the same install – using a new domain or not – that has child blogs.

    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wp-multi-network/

I believe most of WP users don’t have IP address on shared hosting.

they have a shared IP. Most users will not need multisite or multiple networks.

It’s not designed for a shared host because it’s designed to hosts hundreds and thousands of sites in one install – which most people won’t be doing, and they sure will not be doing it on a shared host.

    Thanks for quick replay.

    I might got it wrong but I thought mulitsite option is integrated in WP. I enabled it with define(‘WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE’, true);

I sucessfully made new site with new domain. I thought last stepp would be to configure domain. I changed htaccess too.

As of using multisite on shared hosting it is not written anywhere that it is not supposed to be used on shared hosting. I understand that shared hosting is not suitable becuase it is not giving enough access to mashine and OS.

So, do you say that VPS or dedicated server is only solution for multisite or it is possible to make it at other hosting company that gives subdomains.

I have additional hosting at Hawkhost but I preffer GoDaddy for WP sites because I had some CPU/MEM issues with WP site on my third hosting. As you can see I have experiance with hosting but I didn’t understand that multinetwork is not designed for a shared host.

BTWm is there differance between mutlinetwork and multisite?

    Tnx

I sucessfully made new site with new domain.

How? With the domain mapping plugin? Or did you do it manually by typing in the name?

when you enable the network, you set up ONE domain with sub-blogs on that same domain.

Under SuperAdmin panel under option “Sites” I added new site. I don’t know what is other way. That site is pointing too subdirectory. I can switch between sites in dashboard and have complete access to every site (posts, themes,…).

As I said I thought that next step is to set-up domain for new site. I thought it is done with “Domain” ot “Domain mapping” in Super Admin panel.
I even added new domain to second site under “Domains” options. So isn’t next step to configure domain mapping or I got wrong what domain mapping is? The problem is only “server IP address” and “Server CNAME domain” are options. I don’t get what should I do to configure domain for second site.

OK. Now I have sites with subdomains.
I followed this great guide how to do it on GoDaddy.

    https://keithjameslock.com/wordpress-mu-with-subdomains-godaddy-shared-hosting/

I like when people make it simple. It is never how complex is something but how good manual is.

And now I have to figure out is it possible to make domain mapping on shared hosting. In my case GoDaddy.

I really appreacite your quick replies. I allready found that page but I can’t figure out how to configure domain. I also found this
    https://blogetery.com/domain-mapping/

I just have to figure out how to add non-www CNAME and I am not sure what to input for CNAME in WP but I will ask for that at Otto. Anyway Ottopress.com seems good tutorial how to configure domain mapping in WP.

    Tnx a lot.
