• I’ve been using this character ? in my lists at https://www.intheboatshed.net, but now they’ve disappeared to be replaced by this: a—

    Does anyone know what I should do about this please? Did it happen when I switched to 2.2? Is there a button that will bring my little black blobs back please?

    Thanks.

    Gav

    PS – I’m also having some problems with my theme – my weblog looks great in Firefox but in Opera and Internet Explorer 6 the left and right hand columns disappear to the bottom of the page. I’m losing hits as a result, and would love to know the answer to this one too please, if anyone knows the answer…

  • If you upgraded to 2.2 then you should delete these two lines from your wp-config.php file:

    define('DB_CHARSET', 'utf8');
    define('DB_COLLATE', '');

    Resource:
    Editing wp-config.php

    If you did a new installation with Fantastico, you might need to delete those two lines also.

    That works thanks – although I’ll have to spend a happy period inserting little black blobs in 200+ posts…

    I’m still baffled by the problem of the columns jumping downward. Can I solve this problem by using the Adsense widget rather than trying to place these things by hand do you think please?

    Thanks,

    I’ve just looked again – it’s now looking at least reasonably good in Firefox and Opera, but in Internet Explorer 6, it’s absolutely dreadful. Take a look: https://www.intheboatshed.net

    Can anyone please tell me what I’ve done wrong?

    Thanks,

    I’ve just replaced the whole theme with the original theme download, and it’s no better.

    I’m starting to think that the issue isn’t so much with my adding a few Adsense and Amazon ads, but is in fact due to some clash between the theme and 2.2, or 2.2 with Explorer, or Explorer with the theme or all three…

    And I still don’t know where to go with this.

    I know this forum has moved on, but does anyone have any advice please on how I can make my WordPress 2.2 weblog compatible with Internet Explorer 6? It may seem like a silly question to many of you but my pages look dreadful in IE running on my Windows 2000 wordbox, and I’m worried that the large numbers of IE6 users who visit my pages will just see a mess.

    The stats reveal a surprising number of IE6 users out there by the way – probably a third of all my hits are from IE6 browsers.

    Thanks,

    Gavin
