    Hello.

I started a WordPress site at blog.613photo.com last week. I have two main problems with it. One is that it has no title. In the browser tab it just has the URL up there. When I was starting up I seem to remember a place to type in a title, but I didn’t want the text on my page (title is in header image) so I left it blank. Well, now I can’t even find where to enter a title.

Also, my main site on the same domain is fast, but the wordpress site on the subdomain is excruciatingly slow. Dial up slow, even. It took me almost two minutes to load a page while ago. Sometimes it is faster. And people tell me it’s not slow, though the site isn’t finished and not many people have seen it yet. In any event, it’s extremely slow for me most of the time, and it’s bad enough that I don’t even want to work on the site.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • The title can be set in the admin > settings > general

As for the speed, I’m not really sure. It’s mostly a server issue, your images are too large or you have way too many plugins and scripts loaded.

If you do a google search for “how to make your wordpress load faster” you’ll find a few tips on how to optimize your site.

Thanks. I will try the Google search. My images aren’t very big, though, and have few plugins and no scripts that I installed.

I don’t even know how to get to the admin panel. I can get to the dashboard easily enough but it doesn’t have a “settings” option.

Oh…Okay. I found the settings. I swear they weren’t there while ago. Maybe the page hadn’t loaded completely yet.

If you are on the dashboard, then that’s the admin.

At the bottom in your sidebar, there’s a tap called settings.
That’s where you change your title.

Yeah I found it and did that.

Is there any way to keep it from printing the words? I have the words in the image header where they ought to be, and having the print up at the top is redundant.

Okay. I still have two problems. I really don’t want the text “sixthirteen photo blog” at the top of the page. I like the header image I made and think that it should stand alone. Even blogger will let you do this, so I’m sure there’s a way to make wordpress do it.

Secondly, I have followed Christine’s suggestions the best I can, but there has been no speed improvement. A website speed test site just told me it took 1 minute and 50 seconds for my page to load, which is beyond ridiculous since there’s barely anything on it. Again, the main site is fast. It’s the blog in the subdomain running wordpress that’s an issue. The sites giving tips on speeding things up sound like greek to me. I installed the W3 caching plug-in and things slowed down even more.

Frustrated and am ready to wipe the installation completely.

I really don’t want the text “sixthirteen photo blog” at the top of the page.

It can be taken off the page using CSS.

How many images are on the page. How large are those images. How many plugins are you running that have to filter front end content?

Please be more specific regarding CSS. I know what CSS stands for but have no idea how to edit it. It all looks crazy to me when I look at it.

There are a few images. But I have pages on the same domain with more and much, much larger photos that load in literally 1/10 the time that it takes the wordpress page to load. I don’t think it’s the images. I’ve had photo galleries for a long time and haven’t seen anything this slow in years.

I do not know what “filter front end content” means.

I appreciate you guys trying to help, but I don’t think wordpress is for me. It’s apparently for people who know about websites and have some kind of training, because I’m a pretty smart guy but find myself completely lost.

Any plugin that alters or adds to your page/post content.

    a:
your site is not particularly slow on this end:
15 sec in IE7 (7 sec loading it the second time), 5 sec in FF3.6.15

maybe whatever you are running in the wp admin section is slowing it.
have you tried loading the page while logged off?

how to remove the site title (and description ) in Twenty Ten has been resolved several times in this forum – try the forum search with various combinations of keywords.

well, you’re right. It is a lot faster when I’m not logged in. I never would have thought that would make a difference, or at least a difference that big.

I will look for how to deal with the title. I’m sure I’ll be able to figure that one out with the help of the forum. I just had this speed issue, too.

Thanks to all who replied. I guess things are okay.

Okay well I have found some code in several places throughout the forum, but none of them tell an apparent idiot like me where to put it. I tried putting it in what I thought was a logical location but it changed nothing.

Neither of the learning sites posted above are for beginners. Well if the second one is who would know because that’s the worst looking website I’ve ever seen.

I don’t want to learn how to code a website. I just want the title text off of there and I will be done with it.

    Thread Starter 613photo

    (@613photo)

Okay I’m done with it. I’m not really sure what I did but it works.

Except I am kind of wondering what size to make my header image. I created it at the size it said it would accept, but in Firefox it still has a black border around some of it.

I really don’t want the text “sixthirteen photo blog” at the top of the page.

    – It can be taken off the page using CSS. (thanks esmi.)

Do you really have to resort to CSS mod to disable that? Having a big text splash of your site name in the Header is often unwanted (better ways to announce your site brand) – should be a basic Dashboard (or at least THEME) setting or function to disable. Hope there’s more to it than meets the eye here…

And speaking of helpful, there’s no substitute for specifics. If this has been addressed umpteen times, why not post a link to one such? No matter what anyone says, searching for similar topic threads is needle-in-haystack a lot of the time. Help in blogs like this is voluntary and DEARLY appreciated – but just as when I was learning DRUPAL, here too is a tendency to “teach lessons” that aren’t useful, just make-wrongs. If you know an example how about share it? Please and thank you.
