My blog has disappeared due to wp-config issues. Help!

    I have a mess. My client’s blog went down a day or two ago unexplainedly. I got an error message when I tried to log on. I called go daddy, my host, they said it was a database problem. I went into their MySQL tool and sure enough, my wp-config file didn’t match their parameters. I made the fix, uploaded, and voila – now the browser finds my blog BUT it’s an old version, sitting in an outdated WordPress installation folder that’s been untouched for 2 years, sitting deep in the folder structure (a botched installation).

    So I deleted the botched WP installation, leaving only the good one at the root level. It contains all my files, pics, vids, etc. Now, when I try to access my admin panel (www.myurl.com/wp-admin), it keeps searching for the botched WP installation, now deleted. When I try to enter my familiar old uid and pwd into the admin box, it tells me that’s wrong. When I try to change my password, it tells me there is no email address matching mine in the system.

    So for more than two years, I have been updating and caring for a blog that sits on the root level of my server, and as of 2 days ago, I can’t get to it. All day, I have tried several things, some get me close, others further away. My client is freaking out. Help!

    That makes sense. How can I be sure I am using correct database?

    the wp-config file will tell you what DB you’re using. You can use your mysql tool to look at the data and see what dbase are available. then you should be able to match the right one.

    MySQL shows only one database. The parameters in that database were transferred over to wp-config. Yet, the problem still persists. Is there anything else I need to add to the config file?

    I am hoping to avoid uninstalling everything and starting over – a lot of work.

    If you know how go in database using phpmyadmin you can check what urls you have as Home be table 1 or 2 and Site url be on page two 37 or 38

    Check the other paths in the config file. I don’t host with GoDaddy so I’m not sure what the options are there. The dbhost should probably be localhost.

    As a last resort, assuming you don’t have your own backup, you could ask them to refresh the site from a week ago.

    correction they use a url that you can see in database info instead of localhost
