My blog is down, can't login into admin or FTP

    Here’s the story: Last week I logged into WordPress, and I installed a few updates for plugins. At one point I accidentally navigated away in installation – I think this is where the problem began. My website came up as a blank white screen and my login page was “Not found The requested URL /wp-login.php was not found on this server.” So I went onto FTP and tried to just delete the plugin. That didn’t work so I re-installed WordPress from FTP and deleted all my plugins. I used the newest version (I hadn’t updated since maybe 2.9…not sure). After I replaced the old WordPress files, everything came back up – including all my posts, pictures, etc.

    …But then a couple days later I went to log in and I had the same problem, except now it’s saying there is no website at that address. So again, I reinstalled wordpress from FTP, but this time the problem wasn’t resolved. Over the last week I’ve been trying everything I can think of (and searched the forums) but can’t get the site back up. And today, for some bizarre reason, I can’t log on to my FTP server. It’s saying the login is incorrect. I’m stuck – there’s really nothing I can do at this point.

    And the icing on the cake is that I didn’t set this blog up originally. Our web guy did about a year ago – and we’ve since cut ties with this person. I’m not sure who is hosting it, and I have no idea how to access PHPMyAdmin.

    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am SO frustrated right now!

    Contact GoDaddy, as they appear to be your host. Ask them about FTP and Control Panel. And about backups!

    So I contacted GoDaddy and they told me this:
    “It appears that the domain name, catstudioblog.com, is currently being hosted on your server as the IP address associated with the domain is xxx.xxx.xx.xx.” Does that mean it’s self-hosted?

    Then they gave me instructions on how to reset my password from PLESK. I was about to do that but thought I’d try to logon to FTP once more and was able to! So now I’m back in FTP, but my blog is still down.

    Any suggestions on how to fix it?

    Well I finally figured it out, and thought I would share this info for anyone with a similar problem:

    I got into PLESK (I guess they were my server – through GoDaddy) and saw that my site had been “suspended.” I clicked “unsuspend” and it told me it couldn’t unsuspend it because the domain was expired (which it isn’t – it has over a year to go!). I did a little searching in help and found that when you set up the domain on the server you can set an expiration date on it. It was set to 11/5/10. About the same time all this happened. In fact, I don’t know that the problem had anything to do with plug-ins or upgrades to WordPress. It was probably that all along!

    Anyway, everything is up and running again. And I didn’t lose any posts because it was all backed up on Plesk. Yay!
