• Hello!

The last couple of days my blog has been really slow to upload itself, just check it out here: https://www.charlett.no. I don’t know the reason, but I use the themes Twenty Eleven and Twenty Ten version 1.2 for my blog design and wordpress says that I should update to version 1.3. I don’t want to do that because then my customized design will disepear and I haven’t made it my self. What to do?

  • I think your blog fetches data from multiple domains. Mine also. This is what I do, you can also try:
    1) Add W3 Total Cache plugin
    2) Get cloudfare account
    3) Add cloudfare details to W3TC settings.

There are lot of images and videos on your home page. Try minimizing the images and also install lazy load plugin for wordpress which will load images as users scroll down the page.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you, I will try this! But what is an cloudfare account?

Register for a free account at:
    https://www.cloudflare.com

Then change the name servers of your domain to point to cloudfare name servers. For this you need to contact your hosting vendor to change the name servers. You will get the cloudflare name servers when you complete the registration at the above mentioned URL.

You can check the speed of my webite where I have implemented all the above techniques:

Site doesn’t seem too slow to me (maybe you’ve already made improvements?), but could be optimized. I agree with the W3 Total Cache recommendation. You could do that first and then look at doing Cloudflare or other CDN to improve performance as a second step if you need it. Good starting settings are Page Caching (enable – to Disk Enhanced), Minify (enable – to Disk). That’s it. Leave everything else to default, turned off. You can do database and object caching, but I don’t think that is recommended unless you have a VPS or dedicated server.

I personally use the following sites to provide an objective performance measurement…

    https://websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/and
    https://developers.google.com/pagespeed/

I also use pingdom.com free account to monitor response time.
