• Hi guys,
    Friend gave me a theme called “LightBright”, I uploaded and installed it. My blog went offline completely. Now get a 500 error and cannot even access the /wp-admin page either to log in and delete the theme.

    Blog is totally offline.

    Address is https://www.russhowepti.com and I have got no clue what to do. Total beginner with codes, plugins, all that stuff. Had a nice little fitness blog until I installed this theme and it just all went offline in a second….?

  • Is there a folder in wp-content/themes called twentytwelve?

    Ah ok. It’s just done it now. ?? Uploaded a new unpacked version of 2012 theme.

    Blog still offline so far.

    Try checking your site’s error logs for messages. Your hosts should be able to help you in accessing your site’s error logs.

    Not possible to activate a different theme from inside the file manager where I am?

    I’ve popped them a message for those error logs, but have no idea what I’ll be looking for. My site said internal 500 error before.

    The method I gave above (ie renaming your current theme’s folder) automatically activates the default WP theme. That’s the only realistic way of switching themes outside of the WP dashboard.

    Great. Would I just need to start my blog from scratch then?

    Hi Russ just wanted to check you did the following;

    In file Manager, cPanel you;

    1. went into wp-contents/themes, found the new theme you installed and altered it so it had .old on the end, so for example it should now be something like, ‘lightbright.old’

    Would I just need to start my blog from scratch then?

    Hopefully not. At this stage, although your site is inaccessible, the actual content should still be safe in your database.

    Hi mate,
    Yeah it’s called lightbright-old now but the site brings up a blank white screen instead of the 500 error it was bringing up before.

    BTW. have located the Error Log inside cpanel but it’s actually a blank page. Still awaiting a reply from my hosts, just found that section by myself.

    Can you access your database using Phpmyadmin via cPanel?

    Yes. Sorry for delay, just found that button!! I’m in there now.

    First, navigate to the wp_posts table and check that your site’s content is still safe. Then move onto the wp_options table and look under the option_name columns for current_theme. Make a note of the option_value and post it here.

    Wow. Content is still there. ??

    Current theme is listed as LightBright and the autoload (the next field to it) is listed as ‘yes’

    Blog still offline though.

    Have you managed to get hold of any error logs yet?
