• Hi, I really hope someone can help me. I’ve been running my blog for just over 2 years and haven’t had any issues with is what so ever. I have always been able to login and view it. On either the latest version of Firefox or Safari with no issues. However yesterday, it just randomly decided never to work again. I can’t load it and I can’t login. It just spins like it’s loading for ages then nothing happens, or I get an error page saying what I am looking for doesn’t exist.

I’m finding this really odd because I can login using my iPhone with no issues and view it fine. Other people can view it because I have tried other computers and it works fine there, it just seems to be my Macbook that I can’t view it on on any browser tried. Also my boyfriends Macbook wont load it neither. I thought it may have been some Mac issue that occurred, but my brothers Macbook will load it so it’s not.

I have cleared my cache and cookies, nothing will fix it. I just can’t load it on my computer. I have been receiving comments and views though so I know it’s working for others. Does anyone know what the issue might be? It’s causing such a problem because I need to make some posts and I can’t unless I borrow someone elses. Hopefully someone might be able to help me with what the issue might be? Thanks in advance and my blog is https://www.raindropsofsapphire.com

    Lorna.

Would that be what’s causing the Internal Server Error message I posted above?

But yes I can login. I didn’t think it would be my plugins though because I have had all of them for some time and never had any issue at all with them. The only recent one I downloaded was a back ups plugin which I deactivated and deleted and I still have the issue. I wouldn’t like to switch themes. I had my Fruit Shake one transferred over to my self hosted blog by a guided transfer so I’m worried I might lose it as it doesn’t show it’s uploaded in my themes area. Also, turning off all my plugins would make my side bar go away and other things, but I don’t think it’s any of those. The only one I think it could be was the back ups. So I may need to reset the plugins folder then? I’m not sure how to do that though.

But this is a really recent thing. It just happened yesterday for no reason, everything has been working perfectly fine before then.

That comes from your server and usually is either your theme, a plugin, or some combination of the two. That’s why you should do those steps, to narrow down the problem to the root cause.

Ok, would that still be my theme or old plugins? Even if I have had them for some time and not updated or changed anything on them? As they were all working perfectly for ages before this hiccup. I just need to know if they can randomly decide not to work for no reason?

Maybe updating to WordPress 3.4 might help too? I saw that’s just became available? In order to manually back up my content before I do though, do I need to export it? I tried looking everywhere online, but I couldn’t find out if the export button took the content off of your blog? Or it just gave you a copy?

No one here could possibly tell you that, at best we can advice you on how to figure it out yourself.

These steps are Troubleshooting 101. If switching to Twenty Eleven and deactivating all of your plugins eliminates the Internal Server Error message you are getting, then you can work backwards and reactivate them one at a time. When the error comes back, that’s the culprit.

That’s just a way to identify the problem.

It’s always good advice and on the top with the update notice: Please backup your files and database before attempting any upgrade.

If something goes catastrophically wrong then you can go back to square one.

Ok, I will try doing the plugins and theme now then and see how that goes. Thank you!

The plugins didn’t change anything at all. I still find it weird that everything works fine off my phone though, so is it really a WordPress issue? I don’t know why it works on my phone but not on laptops or PCs. It’s driving me crazy lol.

It’s not a WordPress issue if it’s working when you use another connection (ie your phone). I still think it’s a local issue.

I’m still doing the back up at the minute, it’s taking ages as I have such a big blog. So that’s good to have anyway. But I will try ringing my internet provider tomorrow and see if they can do anything. Hopefully it is that and something can be fixed. I really appreciate all of your help Esmi!

No problem. Do let us know how you get on.

I will. I’m a bit unsure what to do in the mean time since I can’t upload any media to my blog via the computer and I can’t really do that from a phone.

Oh wow! No I never knew about that! Thank you! Will that work with putting photos on to my phone from my computer, to upload via the WordPress app? Or will putting them on my phone lower the quality of them?

If you can get the photos onto your iPhone, you should be able to upload them via the app. I use it on my iPad just for uploading images.
