• When you point a browser at my site you get a page called index that lists a bunch of files including wordpress. When you point the browser at https://www.example.com/wordpress you get my front page but none of my post pages work, you just get the same index of page.
    Thanks for any ideas you may have. Also, I am new to this and am still learning how everything works, so I am confident that the answer to this question is fairly simple but still appreciate the help as I have spent considerable time trying to figure it out with no luck.
    Thanks.

    Hi Krishna, I programmed my site this way because I am developing it and want it to be private before I finish developing. Do you all think this isn’t a good way to go in terms of SEO down the road?

    Govpatel, thank you for the advice.

    loughcorrib, thank you for sticking with me on this. The 404s only appear when I am not logged in. If I am logged in, no 404s. I will look at the permalink structure.

    If you do not get 404 when you logged in could be because you have password protected the folder.

    @dbrowne02,
    It is your blog. You have all rights to keep it private. My opinion only meant that unless I or some other members of this forum cannot have a look at the blog, we can only think of imaginary situations and suggestions based on such guess work cannot help you. I have no other interests. As you keep it now, not even search engines will visit your site or index even one page. If you have doubts, make a search and see. The only page showing your site is this page where your discussing your problems. I hope you understand.

    @govpatel, the site is not only password-protected, but made in such a way that no diagnostic tools can access it. What will you advice? From guess work?

    As govpatel suggests, if you are not logged in to a password protected area you possibly would get 404’s.
    How did you set privacy was it from admin settings ?
    From this side all areas ask for login. Which is an indication all should be ok. However I would turn privacy off temporarily, clear your browse cache (f5) and do a tour as a customer to the site.
    As for seo don’t worry about that on a new site. That will start when you go live.

    seems to be a recurring problem for a lot of websites?
    is there a possibilty to have a fix?
