• Hi, sorry my bad english. I am using in hostgator until now PHP 4.4.4 and MySQL 4.1.22-standard

Today I received and email announcing to me they go to upgrade to php5 and MySQL5 and I am a few scared with that.

Can work well my blog after this?.

  • While there is no way to guarantee that this move will go perfectly, many WordPress blogs are already running on web hosts using PHP5 and MySQL5 (including my own blogs on Dreamhost)

Be sure that you have upgraded your third-party themes and plugins to the latest version. For the ones that are critical to your blog – you may want to contact the author to confirm that they have been tested under PHP5.

Then the problem can be with the themes or puglins “only”?

Finally I contanct with the host and I used the option to avoid the upgrade.

I prefer continue with the current versions of php and mysql to avoid problems.

I’m in the same situation as minimalnet. I think I’ll opt out of their automated php upgrade so they won’t touch my wordpress installation.

Are we sure the latest and greatest WordPress works fine on PHP5 and MySQL5?

I just tested if my installation would handle hostgator’s upgrade to php5. I added
    AddHandler application/x-httpd-php5 .php
to the top of my .htaccess file.

It seems to work fine. So I will go ahead and opt-out of hostgator’s auto-update program so they won’t touch my files.

I use WordPress on PHP 5 and MySQL 5. It works perfectly, no issues at all.

In fact, I recommend running it on PHP 5. PHP 4 has given me more problems than PHP 5 has. PHP 4 is old, outdated, and dying. Switch.
