How many links do you have to sort with manually?

Four different categories of about 20 each.

How often do you expect do change these links? One way to do it would be to set the order based on updated date, then save them one after the other in the order in which you would want them to appear.

I considered that and I don’t like that option. ….but since there isn’t a more practical way I will use it.

Thank you for your work and help.

There will be down the road. I am working on the next-generation of the plugin and direct ordering is something I am looking into.

I would like to able to custom order my categories and, like piperfect, have just discovered that the ‘My Link Order’ plugin is no longer available.

The ‘last update date’ option seems to be available only for links. Is there any way I can custome order my categories (other than prefixing the category names with a numeral corresponding to my prefered sort order)?

Actually, there is a way to order categories. You need to go under the General Options and set ‘category selection method’ to ‘comma-separated ID list’.

Then, go to library settings, under common, and you will see that the list of categories to be displayed has changed to a list of category IDs. You can then decide on the order of the categories by adding them in a specific order.

There’s one more step in addition to those you describe – also need to go to Library Settings | Categories and change the Results Order to ‘Order of categories based on included category list’.

And, with that done, it works a treat! Many thanks.

Oh yes, sorry. Forgot about that step. Glad you figured it out.

Please let us know when we can add something to the links to make them sort within a category!
I would think it could be easy just by adding a numeric field to the link insertion screen – in fact, I thought maybe the “rating” drop down would have done this.

In practice I doubt many have to have sort over about 50 within a category.
I will gladly donate if I can get this to suit my purposes.

One way to go it is to get the My Link Order plugin. While it is no longer offered on the wordpress site, you can still find it within the WordPress plugin SVN:

    https://plugins.svn.www.ads-software.com/my-link-order/trunk/

Last I checked, it still worked correctly with Link Library.

As for Link Library itself, I am working towards a new version that will support re-ordering, but that is taking a lot of time to convert the entire plugin’s functionality. I am hoping to have a beta version of the new version (6.0) out this fall.

Please consider donating to support this plugin’s development.
