Hi, I just installed your plugin to test one of my sites and I noticed that it said verifying and then was somehow able to prepopulate the form with my full name. Not a problem but just wondering where you pulled that information from? …because it’s nowhere on my site or listed on any whois database.

    HI @multimastery,
    Thanks for reaching out.

Your and your customers’ privacy is very important to us. So we only prefill the name from your WordPress admin BUT this is NOT sent to us (It is just static HTML). And, you can change this – Only after you submit this, will we ever receive these details.

    Regards

Ok well the thing is that my name (not even my first name) is not listed anywhere in my WordPress admin, so that’s strange that my full name was able to pulled, from somewhere.

And I’m blaming you, I’m just asking you and wondering where exactly did it get this information. It had to come from somewhere and I’m just very curious to know for my oun knowledge and awareness, because again, my name is not listed nowhere in my admin dashboard and my domain is registered with privacy protection on. So again, I’m not blaming you of anything, I’d just appreciate a deeper look and more insight on this matter, because it strange.

    HI @multimastery,
Thanks for reaching out. As confirmed, the name is copied from what is entered in your WordPress Admin–> General. There is no other process nor lookup. Also, the name or email is not sent to us until you confirm and you can change this as well.
    Thanks

My name is not even there, it’s just the site name. So yeah…thanks for nothing and not even trying to explore deeper into this.

Well that’s OK. I’ve given this some thought and this has stirred my curiousity deeply now. So if you can’t help me get to the bottom of this, then perhaps the OAIC, EDPS and FTC will. It’s bigger than me now. It’s about citizens and consumers having the right to privacy and data protection under the law. I must dig deeper now because it just doesn’t add up.

    HI @multimastery,
    Thanks for reaching out.

My name is Akash Malik- I am the founder of Apps Mav.

I absolutely understand your concern. And, I would like to assure you that we do not use any sort of lookup or another process to search for your name.

I had a discussion with our team today and would like to inform you that we are using WordPress inbuilt function wp_get_current_user() to get the first name and last name of the current logged in user. You can read about this function here: https://developer.www.ads-software.com/reference/functions/wp_get_current_user/

Further, I’d also like to assure you these details are not sent to us (It is just static HTML) until you submit it. And, you can change and submit them as well.

We welcome you as our customer and if you need any help or further clarification about our apps, please feel free to email us at [email protected].
We are here to help and work with our customers to help them achieve growth and success.

Yeah…but that still doesn’t explain how you guys got my first and last name. As I’ve stated before, my name is nowhere in my WordPress settings, only the name of my site. In fact, I never use my Full Name anywhere online except through some financial transactions, so there’s something you’re either hiding, not fully explaining or overlooking. Either way, I’m not buying it and I will have to continue digging deeper into this matter.

    Hi @multimastery
I can assure you once again that we do not do any other lookup/name search and pick this up from your WordPress admin- Were you able to review this content https://developer.www.ads-software.com/reference/functions/wp_get_current_user/ – Please do review this as perhaps this may clarify.
You can review the downloaded file and check the code.

You’re right, I found it. I was thinking that you meant to just look in the settings (where site name, title, etc. appears), but now when reread the details that you supplied and it dawned on me to click on the actual user admin to view the information in there, now I see it. The site is old so I put my name in those settings years back, no biggie. I just wanted to understand where it was being pulled – especially with all of the privacy and security breaches these days. Again, my apologies for not understanding and thanks for your assistance!
