When I try to share my website homepage on Linkedin, the image is not showing up at all. I’ve checked the og: image and it’s actually in the HTML code so there shouldn’t be an issue there.

I use only Yoast SEO as an SEO plugin and the og:image is being generated by Yoast.

I’ve tried to reach out to the Linkedin support team and this is what they said:

“On checking the page source, I see that the page has oembed tag and there is no og image present. If there is an oembed tag, the tags under this will take precedent over the other tags. I recommend you contact your developer to fix the tag.”

As I mentioned, the tag is there so I suppose is this oembed tag? Not sure how to fix it though. Can anyone please help me find out a solution?

    Hello Luca,

    Thanks for reaching out.

We can confirm that when your homepage is shared on LinkedIn, it does not include an image. We used the LinkedIn post inspector but it says there is no image whereas we could see an og:image defined:

    <meta property="og:image" content="https://www.lucamussari.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Luca-Mussari-Logo-og.jpg" />

Using the LinkedIn post inspector on the og:image shows it is fine. We also checked all the requirements provided by LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/46687 and your image meets that. We are unsure why the image does not show.

    According to the LinkedIn,

if the image meets the requirements, but it still does not appear in updates on LinkedIn, your website may be blocking us from pulling the image or the image may be located on a protected directory or website. For further assistance, please visit the developer site forums.

    Hi @maybellyne,

As I mentioned, they say that when “there is an oembed tag, the tags under this will take precedent over the other tags.” which means that apparently, Yoast oembeded the tag for some reasons on my site.

Could you please help me find out why the og:image has been oembeded?

    Thanks
    Luca

    Hi @luca04

We can confirm that your website has the og:image tag that is being output by the Yoast SEO plugin (when we check the page source), so we’re not sure as to why LinkedIn isn’t detecting it when running it in the LinkedIn post inspector.

But based on this article, it looks like LinkedIn is prioritizing the oembed functionality over the open graph tags. The oembed tags don’t seem to be generated by the Yoast SEO plugin. If you were to disable this functionality and that the oembed tags don’t output, we would then expect that LinkedIn would be able to detect the og:image tag accordingly when you attempt to inspect the URL in the post inspector again.

    Hi @mikes41720,

Thanks for your reply and for your explanation.

I’ve actually installed a plugin called ‘Disable Embeds’ (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/disable-embeds/) which in theory should have done the job. However, even when I disabled the oembed values, Linkedin is still not picking up the og:tags for some reason (cleared cache and used the Linkedin Inspector to recrawl the page).

I also had a look at the articles you shared with me and it says: “This took some rather painful debugging. But we were thankfully able to fix the problem in Yoast SEO by also rewriting the oembed values to match the on-page values (or disabling / conditionally routing oembed).

Does this mean that this issue was supposed to be fixed in Yoast SEO?

Can I also ask you to share with me which are the oembed values that need to be disabled? This will help me better identify the issue.

    Thanks again!

    Luca

While we rechecked the page source of the given page https://www.lucamussari.com/, we don’t see oembed anymore probably because 3rd-party plugin you’ve just installed. Unfortunately, LinkedIn inspector still does not seem to detect the og:image tag.

Your site webpages seem to have gzip compression. Inspecting further, could you please temporarily disable any caches?

Clear all your caching from your theme, plugin, server, CDN like CloudFlare or browser. If you are not sure how to clear caching from theme/plugin please speak to those authors. If you want to clear cache from the server, please speak to your host provider. To clear the cache from a browser use this guide: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-clear-my-browsers-cache/.

Does the issue resolve? Let us know.
