my plugins have vanished

  • I was working on a WP site and when I started all the plugins were there. But then a short time after that they vanished. When I try to re-install the plugins, I get a message to that says the folder is already there, and that the plugin installation has failed.

    The WP gods are toying with me. I haven’t a clue what made the plugins disappear or how I can bring them back.
