my root domain does not display my blog

I did not put text in the field after my root domain, when I installed wordpress. I did a one click install provided by fasthosts.
my blog only appears when i type https://www.domain.com/blog… I want it to appear on root domain. also, i have done static page etc in settings/reading/ etc and that didn’t work either.
what’s the easiest way to sort this? I am not a techie so don’t understand things like htaccess etc or where to go to do things like that – a dummy guide would help though???
