My site content is gone, why?

It seems like I experienced this once before… I’m trying to recall what it was.

Two things I can think of to try is to temporarily de-activate all your plugins and then clear your browser cache and see if it still happens.

Then try re-activating your plugins one at a time and retest. This will tell you if it’s a plugin issue and which one. Sometimes when you upgrade one of your plugins may now cause issues where it was fine before.

If that doesn’t work then I’d try looking through your Unix permissions.

One other thing, and maybe you should start with this first. I would Verify that your full link address for your pages haven’t changed. If you can compare your old page addresses with your current page links when you are in the editor.

In case .htaccess got messed up somehow, it would be worth trying to Save your Permalinks. Don’t change your Permalink definition, just hit the Save button. This will update .htaccess

Joe Shaw has some great ideas, too, but you may want to try this first.

Yes, thanks, I read something on the forums about .htaccess in a recent post, searched for it but can’t find it back. This issue is probably being caused by something ridiculously simple, let’s hope so! Will poke around in there and let you know what happens!

OK, the first thing I found was this, highlighted in red on the Plugins area, not sure what it means (since things are different in 3.2.1 and I’m confused for more than one reason):

The plugin easy-columns/easy-columns.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin regenerate-thumbnails/regenerate-thumbnails.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin wordpress-importer/wordpress-importer.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

My installed plugins all disappeared BTW…I did have a few of them deactivated already.

As I say, just hit the Save Changes button on the Permalinks panel:

That will probably fix .htaccess for you.

I did insert %postname% to customize, graciously advised by the author of the current theme I have been using…maybe the upgrade doesn’t like that?

Good News!!! Save Changes at Permalinks was all it took to get my site working again!!! Huzzah!! Thanks Guyz! <3

If you change your permalink structure all your posts and pages will now be in a different place.

Be Careful if doing this on an established website as you could be negatively impacting any incoming links to your website.

If you have any established pages with inbound links from other sites, changing the permalink structure actually moves the location of the page. Any visitors who clicked those links to your site would now get 404 ‘Page not Found’ errors.

This will also affect your rankings in Google if pages are moved.

If this is needed for your site – there is a solution. You can do something called a permanet 301 redirect. Which basically redirects any requests for page X to the new location of the page.

If you need any help with this, just search on “WordPress 301 redirect”. It’s basically a 1 line change to your .htaccess file.
