• A few weeks ago I noticed that whenever I published a new post my site was generating an email with the new post. I hadn’t asked it to do that, but I assumed it didn’t do any harm to send users a notice about a new post, so I let it go. But someone just pointed out to me that the emails have text link ads, like this —

[ levitra vs cialis | pal pay pill viagra | cialis 50 mg | how much does cialis cost ]

These links are not appearing on my site. I did an internal malware scan that didn’t find anything.

Do you know how I can make it stop generating emails?

  • Your website is most likely hacked. You can check the status here – https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/ It might give you some useful info.
Do you have any backup that you know is clean for sure? If not you’ll have to clean up your website.

As @sinip suggested sitecheck is one tool you can use. In addition the Exploit Scanner plugin can help detect damage so that it can be cleaned up.
    Other things you should do:

    • Change passwords for all users, especially Administrators and Editors.
    • If you upload files to your site via FTP, change your FTP password.
    • Re-install the latest version of WordPress.
    • Make sure all of your plugins and themes are up-to-date.
    • Update your security keys.
    • See FAQ My Site Was Hacked.

Just cleaning out files isn’t enough. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.
