My site won’t load/server says it’s this plugin
-
Hello,
Apologies for this lengthy support request, but I really love this plugin and hope to continue with it.
Plugin was working great even after I changed results from 100 to 2000, following your instructions. But later, my entire site wouldn’t load and my server support told me this (copied and pasted):
“This is happening because your website is loading over 50MB of data from the wp_options table on every page view, as you have several options set to autoload. All those options start with “aws_search_term”, which comes from the advanced-woo-search plugin.
We strongly recommend that you let us disable this plugin and remove those options from your database, otherwise I am afraid your website will not come back online.”
I asked them to proceed but told them this was probably because I changed results from 100 to 2000 but they didn’t think so (copied/pasted):
“I think this has nothing to do with you setting the results page from ‘100’ to ‘2000’. It would be best to coordinate with the plugin support team to confirm if this is indeed the case.
Anyway, I proceeded with removing these autoloaded options and the site is back up and running now.You will see the sudden drop of memory footprint right after we did the change here:

When I woke the next day, the plugin was still active (I thought they were removing it) and the site was working great, so I thanked them and thought the issue was resolved.
But then again yesterday, my site wouldn’t load unless “refresh” was hit once or twice. I contacted support again and here’s what they said (copied and pasted):
“Things are back to how it was before.
Your search plugin is once again clogging the database with autoloaded variables. I am afraid there is not much we can do if you don’t disable this plugin or find a way for the plugin to clear the variables it saves and clogs the database.
We have cleared the database of these variables and the site is back up and running. You will see the difference of how much memory your site consumes before and after it was cleared here:

“As we mentioned before, you will need to coordinate with the plugin’s support team and tell them what happened.
With the way this plugin is behaving, no server can run it unless the server has unlimited memory or if the plugin was configured differently on their sites.
This is not a server issue but an issue with the plugin which we have little experience with since we did not personally developed it.”
I don’t understand most of the above but I hope it helps you help me and perhaps others reading.
I think it’s selfish for me to expect this generous free plugin to handle almost 1500 products but I’m asking anyway because it seemed to be working great and perhaps you know of a way I could make it stop preventing my site from loading without ‘refreshing’ a few times.
It is now disabled but I really need search functionality on my site and thought I’d try asking you, as suggested repeatedly by my server support. Any idea what I can do?
Thank you very much.
