My sitemap is showing URL that not exist anymore

Hi All,
I have warnings in my google search console page. I got the following message:
When we tested a sample of the URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some URLs were not accessible to Googlebot due to an HTTP status error. All accessible URLs will still be submitted. The error code is the 404. The sitemap in question is https://events.consultingquest.com/categories-sitemap.xml. If you go there you will see:

https://events.consultingquest.com/schedule/hall-a/ 2017-06-15 15:45 -04:00
https://events.consultingquest.com/schedule/sdcm2017-07/ 2017-03-09 09:02 -05:00

https://events.consultingquest.com/schedule/centre-de-conference-capital-8/ 2017-11-15 12:50 -05:00None of this URL are working anymore. They were removed or changed at least 2 months ago. All these URL gives you 404 – not found if you go there.
so my question is, how do I remove they from my sitemap or how do I make YOAST “recreate” my sitemaps.

Hi, Thank you for your answer,
I reduced the “Max entries per sitemap:” from 1000 to 100. I now have 15 sitemaps in the main file instead of 14 when the value was 1000, as you can here: https://events.consultingquest.com/sitemap_index.xml.
but the problematic sitemap still have the same 5 invalid URL:https://events.consultingquest.com/categories-sitemap.xml
so, it seems to me that didn’t solve the problem.
