First off, Happy Holidays to all.

I am a newbie at this and do not have a great understanding of the intricacies of wordpress.

My website is working fine, but when I try to access the wp-login page to access my admin dashboard, I get a 404 error code. My site hosting company says that the problem is not with them. I have not accessed this for about two months. Before it was fine and now I get only a white page stating “Your search – https://domainname.com/wp-login – did not match any documents”.

    Sometimes I get a 404 error code?

I do have access to C/Panel, but in phpMyAdmin all my files are listed as oad_filename for some reason that I do not know.

Some help would be appreciated greatly

phpMyAdmin accesses your database, not files. ??

To access your files, you’ll need to access your server via FTP or SFTP.

Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    Link to your website, please.

James Huff, how is this done? When I say newbie….I mean Newbie!! I can obviously download a fresh copy of wp through my c/panel, but i do not know how to save and replace files.

Will the fresh download erase my files or website content? More importantly, will this remedy the problem.

    Thank you in advance.

You’ll download a fresh copy from https://www.ads-software.com/download/ to ensure you get a good one, not through cPanel.

Then, you’ll access your server via SFTP, FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s panel.

Finally, you’ll delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

This will either remedy the problem or at least rule-out core file damage.

Could you tell me the process of doing this, as well as how do I completely delete the present copy of wp and then, how do I copy and replace the wp-config.php and wp-content/directory, into their respective slots.

Also, how do I install a fresh copy of wp into c/panel?

    Thank you

What is occuring to me is that in your original post you sent https://domainname.com/wp-login when then actual link should be https://domainname.com/wp-login.php.

So, I’m wondering if what you tried was not the proper link to login?

Follow the instructions I already provided. When you access your server via SFTP, FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s panel, you’ll work with the files there just like files on your own computer.

You’ll need to check your hosting provider’s documentation or contact their support for instructions on accessing your server via SFTP or FTP.

Great catch, @neotechnomad! It should definitely be /wp-login.php

    NeoTechnomad

When I did as you suggested, that is when I got the 404 Error code. I have spent several hours trying a multitude of different ways of entering this, and none have worked.

I tried various other remedies suggested by others on this, and other related forums…to no avail.

Ok, then the file itself is likely missing. Follow the manual reinstall instructions above.

Ok I will try as you suggested, and work my way forward from there.

    Again, thank you in advance.

    You’re welcome!

I have just tried what you suggested and the problem still persists.

    bobby4444, are you john4488?

If not, would you please open your own thread? https://www.ads-software.com/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting#postform

If you are, can you confirm that the wp-login.php file exists at the root of the domain?
