I have been using Smush for a while. Free version. Last few days I have been adding some text and since then the speed of my pages/post has decreased a lot. 3 days ago I have been playing with activating/deactivating smush, hummingbird, jetpack … and changing some options on/off. Couldn’t really make improvements…so I gave up and activated everything back to normal.

I kept editing my texts. Today my website is insanely slow. I went on gtmetrix and it says none of my imaged are optimized.

I went on the forum and I read something about smush is not optimizing in the free version. But I don’t understand why is my website every day slower and slower? I have been using a free Smush version and everything was OK until a week ago…

I did install a Phoenix Media Rename plugin 10 days ago. (allows you to change the filename of images that are already uploaded in WP Media Library). But things did not get worse after I changed filenames. It got worse a few days later when I started editing text

My Hummingbird performance test went from 80 to 56 and it is giving me the same notes of improvement as when it was 80

All of my plugins are up to date.
No issues with the server or theme
    pHp 7.3

    help me please!

    Hello @somenoma ,

I’ve checked your site results in the Google Page speed and it only highlights one image (cute-house-togo.jpg) as not Efficiently encoded.
I suggest trying to Super Smush that one image and see if that will make any change.

From the Page Speed test, it looks like the main issue on your site is render-blocking resources.
You can check this guide about site optimization using Hummingbird https://premium.wpmudev.org/docs/wpmu-dev-setting-configurations/wpmu-dev-performance-optimization-guide/

I would also suggest checking your plugins list and removing completely those which are not really necessary for your site.

    kind regards,

    Hi Kasia,

thanks for troubleshooting my page? How do I access Super Smush feature? I don’t see it in my WP media.

Is that only for Smush Pro users?

    Hi @somenoma,

It seems that Kasia got a bit confused with the previous response as the Super Smush is indeed available only in the Pro version of the plugin, it happens sometimes, sorry about that ??

From what I see the image in question here is the original image and this is something that is skipped in the free version since most themes and plugins use thumbnails and optimizing those is enough in most cases.

The thing here is that the original image is quite small so there are no large thumbnails created from it that would fit nicely in that HTML holder, so it’s quite a specific case…
Now, this is not something we would usually do but since we’re talking about a single image here I’ve made an exception and pushed it through Smush Pro and optimized it for you. You can download the optimized version from the below link, upload it to your site, set it for that section and that should be it ??
