• …but WordPress 1.2’s week starts on sunday. That’s bad. Maybe I’m blind or stupid or both but where is the option to change the first day of the week? There was an option on 1.02.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Think of Sunday as Monday =)

But I don’t want to work on sunday ??

Yeah but the week starts on a Sunday. Everybody knows that ??

the place to change the start of the week is under options/general options

Where do you see that? In my General Options area I have:
    – Weblog title
    – Tagline
    – WordPress address (URI)
    – Blog address (URI)
    – E-mail address
    – Membership
    – GMT time is
    – Times in the weblog should differ by
    – Default date format
    – Default time format
…but nothing about the start of the week. It was there in 1.0.2 (under Options -> General blog settings), but not in 1.2, as far as I can see.

Still, as a swedish user, I would like to get a easier way to have the monday as the first day of week. Is it that hard to make som kind of “day-offset” in the week display function?
I looked a bit at the calendar code but it was a bit to much for me right now, and I don’t want to mess up the standard code.

Another Swedish user here and I’d like to echo the request above, an easy way to offset the start of the week day would be nice.

So many WordPress Wizards out there – and still no easy “switch”?

Use phpMyAdmin to see the database, and in the options table, you have an option “start_of_week”. By default it is “1” , and you can change it to “2” for Monday, if you please.

I just used the link posted: https://www.sebbi.de/files/template-functions-general.diff It took me 5 minutes to sort out (it’s a bit akward to understand) – and then 5 minutes to change in template-functions.php – and it seems to work ??
But I agree, there must be a correct way to do this? I have tried to work out the plugin by mookitty – and i don’t understand squat! – The one to sebbi is resonably understandable, and seems to work.

There used to be an option to change the first day of the week, but it never worked so has now been removed.

Well, the hack that is the diff file that is posted here makes use of this option, but you are right, it is no longer present in the current version of wordpress (meaning: you cannot change it in the admin interface) …
I agree that the diff is in a strange format … i guess it wont work with the “patch” program…
    Greetings,
    Sebbi
P.S.: The original thread about this hack is located here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/10/6513

I find it sad that a function this important is not included in the main program. There should be no need for hacks or plugins to perform a task this simple. Is WordPress really not meant to be used outside USA?
I live in Sweden, as a lot of WordPress users do, and I find it very ugly with a calender where the weeks starts on the wrong day. I will try to implement Sebbi’s hack to make it work the way it should have in the first place, but in the next version I think this option must be included in the code.

    It is.
