Did you do anything before this happened, like upgrading, installing a plugin, or changing settings?

try this:

– resetting the plugins folder by using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

– switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

– renaming or deleting the .htaccess file by using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides. If you delete it make a backup first.

Maybe but keesiemeijer’s question is important and needs to be answered for troubleshooting purposes.

@sllim99 what is the link to your WordPress installation supposed to be? For example if I wanted to load the WordPress readme.html file from your site then this URL works.

Rajan – hat link doesn’t work. I sign in but it still directs me to an error page!

Jan – I cannot remember doing anything in particular. I was trying to rectify another problem though actually. My front page was going straight to the wp login, not the main page i’d designed. Perhaps i’d removed/enetered some wrong text. Seems crazy though i cant even gt into the back end(!)

I have tried several versions and cannot get in anywhere

Like Rajan V said it could also be that the urls for your site are wrong in the database. Try setting it to the correct urls with one of these methods (I prever the “Edit functions.php” method):

Just to say thanks for your help. In the end I got so frustrated that I deleted the site and started again. I was only a few pages in so wasn’t too big a loss.
