I recently updated to the newest version of wordpress. When I did, the sidebars disappeared from my blog. They still show in the widgets on my dashboard, but they are not visible on my blog. I’m running Twenty-Ten. What happened and how do I fix it?

  • You can try with another browser or computer. Also disable your plugins.

Thank you for your help. I disabled all the plugins that I could. I have logged in with several devices. None of them have the sidebar.

    Any other suggestions?

Have you tried recreating the sidebar? deleting the old widgets and replacing them?

in case you made mods to the theme and you updated(the theme) the mods are lost and you will have to recreate them.

Honestly, I have no idea how to create a sidebar, let alone recreate one. When I went to the “edit themes” page, there was code in there for one sidebar and no sidebar. However I have no idea how to edit the code to get the sidebar to show up.

The widgets show up just fine when I go to Widgets from the dashboard. I tried updating the theme, but that didn’t work either. Do I need to get a book to learn coding in order to do this? Is there a way to go back to the previous version of wordpress until they can get this fixed?

I understand you are having trouble with your widgets, you can go to

appearance->widgets. You can delete your old widgets and place new ones.

ps are you using the latest version of your theme?

I’m sorry. I wasn’t very clear on my headline. Frustration will do that to me :0/

Basically, the widgets are still there, just fine. However, since they are in the sidebar, they don’t show up on my blog. The sidebar is what disappeared. If I can get the sidebar back, my widgets will be visible again.

I suppose I could copy each widget to a clip board, delete them all, and then reinstall them, but would that make the sidebar reappear?

And yes, I updated to the most recent version of twenty ten. However, the problem existed before that update, and did not resolve with the update.

    please post your url.

well there are “bugs” in your code thats why your sidebar is not working. you can try to re install the theme and disable your plugins.

    Okay. Well, thanks for trying.

The theme will not reinstall and the plugins are disabled.

    try to

    1. activate another theme
    2. delete the old theme
    3. re install a fresh copy of twenty ten.

I’m searching for a copy of my header photo so I can delete twenty ten and then start over. Thanks again.

if you uploaded the photo to wp it won’t be deleted.

I just switched to Twenty Eleven and uploaded the picture. At least it’s working. Thanks for your help. Now I just need to learn to code so I won’t have these problems in the future.
