• Hello

I have several WordPress sites and all are news sites, so each page has mainly just text and one image. I was checking my sites on my hosting account, and suddenly I found that one of my sites is 8GB, and the wp_content folder is 7GB which is so huge compared to my other sites, where the whole site is like 250mb only.

I am wondering how can I know what’s causing this to one of my sites? not sure why the wp_content folder is so big and I am using the same themes/plugins as my other sites, and almost the same amount of posts.

    So what should I do?

  • Images are stored in the wp_content/uploads folder, and each one has multiple versions for the different sizes. Especially if you get the images straight from the camera, the files are quite large.
Use a plugin to optimize images.

@joyously Thanks for your reply, I am using a plugin to optimize images. I don’t have a lot of pictures, maybe around 100 as I use the same image more than once sometimes, and each is like 300kb or so. Also the other sites have almost the same number of images and i am not facing this issue.

Then you should look around at the folder and see what is so big. It could be something your plugins are doing or it could be a hack. You won’t know until you look.

Try this plugin to track down which directory is eating all the space.
