• Don’t I wish I had backed this up! This is my artists journal that I have been running for only 3 months and yet it has become very precious to me. It had maybe 50 posts. Yesterday I was editing a post and the whole weblog stopped working – I cannot access any pages at all. I also, since then, tried using the backupfiles.php hack for the database but it is not recognising my password. My host techie, who is very good, says wp_posts and wp_post2cat is corrupted in the mysql database ansd he says this is a common problem arising from errors in the script.
Why would this happen – is it common for WP to corrupt the database. My usage has been very basic indeed, just text and image links. Has anyone got any suggestions for ways to try and rescue anything from the situation?
    The log is at
    https://www.andrew-hall-artist.com/journal
however since the page does not load at all, that is not much relevance.

  • If you have a good ‘host techie’, then he should also be able to go to a backup tape and retrieve SOME historical version of your database…
I don’t know much about corrupted databases… I would THINK that industrial-strength DBs like MySQL would be reasonably safe from corruption by scripts that are ‘working well’. But that’s just me… I’d think it was a drive/machine error, dunno. Maybe the sql server crashed or something.
But you should check and see if your host has a backup. They usually do/would/should. ??
