I’ve tried to troubleshoot this problem with my blog page as best I can, to no avail. I’m hoping someone here might share some insight into what the problem might be.

It began when my blog page suddenly went from a nicely designed grid to a default list-format page with no styling. When I scrolled down the page, I found this message at the bottom:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 32 bytes) in /home/psychopa/public_html/wp-content/themes/Divi/epanel/custom_functions.php on line 244

The rest of the site was fine, although I was having some problems with it on mobile, such as the hamburger menu not opening when clicked and the ‘back to top’ arrow missing.

I checked with my host, and the PHP memory use was extremely high. When I looked at my site in another browser, the page froze and an error message said it was due to a long script running.

I deactivated all of the plugins. There was no change.

I had my host upgrade the PHP version, which they changed from 5.3.to 5.5. No change.

I deleted the blog module (which is created with the Divi builder; I do have a request for their support waiting in the cue, but my hunch is that it’s something WP-related). After I deleted it, I put in a new blog module and the blog page began working normally again… or so I thought. I can not get past page 4 when I click through the pagination; page five gives the fatal error once again.

Incidentally, now the problems I was having on mobile, with the menu and such, seem to be resolved.

Below is the blog URL. I had made the page private and removed it from the menu since it’s not working correctly, but I put it back up in case taking a look would help you figure out what might be going wrong.

Thank you very much for your help!

i see the error for “page 5”
can you try to show all blog posts on the page instead of breaking up on separate pages?
does the error still happen for the group of posts that originally were located on page 5?

Thank you for responding. When I tried putting all the posts on one page, it would load partially, with the default format, and give the fatal error message.

I just tried removing some code from my child single.php that the Divi developers had given me to create pagination in the blog posts (it is not included in the theme, hard to believe!) and I thought that may have been the problem, but it broke the blog page completely.

Each time I get the fatal error, it says a different file is the problem. I’ve gotten fatal errors for wp-includes/formatting.php, wp-content/plugins/related-posts-by-taxonomy/includes/functions.php on line 279, and Divi/epanel/custom_functions.php on line 244.

**I switched to the twenty fifteen theme in a staging site, and the blog page worked perfectly.** Does this mean that replacing the theme would fix the problem (either a fresh copy of Divi, or a different them completely)? It sure seem that way.

I just put the site into maintenance mode because things are getting worse by the minute. Thank you for taking the time to help me.

If all is well when using a different theme, that usually means that there is something causing problem in the theme or customizations impacting the theme.

Since DIVI is a commercial theme….I would work directly with the DIVI support team to resolve your issues.

To give yourself a bit of time to get the display back in order, putting the site into maintenance mode sounds wise.

There could be a bit of conflict between plugin(s) and theme.

I took the blog page off of the menu and put the site back up. Traffic is very good today, and everything else looks fine, so it’s a shame to keep it down.

I just deleted the blog module from the blog page again, and the page (with just the header and footer) is just the way it should be. It must be some conflict with that module.

I’ve been waiting close to 2 days for a response from Divi’s support team… but it seems like the theme may be the problem after all, most likely something in one of the customizations. I’ve never had to make so many before, and I wouldn’t be surprised if something isn’t quite right.

Thanks you again for your help. Much appreciated.
