mysterious user registrations

    what would cause some of these strange characters to register to my blog as users?
    bvppxttwqz, CosmeticWin, hhynmtrxcp,xtenchsoft
    everything is moderated

    i delete about 20-30 of these clowns a month…sometimes more, but i notice none of them have actually tried posting anything unless it’s all in my spam trap which i don’t really monitor

    spammers.

    I’d delete them as users. “Cosmetic Win” and “xtenchsoft” are *definitely* spammers. I’d assume the same of the rest – they’re either trying to feel out some stuff to see what they can compromise, or they’re trying to do what they can to use you to further their endeavors.

    You could try banning their ip addresses. Doesn’t usually work with spammers, but…
