    Hello

    My podcast was originally titled, “A Long Look: Slow Art at the National Gallery.” When Apple changed their naming standards (no subheads in titles), I removed the colon between “Look” and “Slow” to fit their new rules. I updated the name in PowerPress and it successfully updated everywhere.

    However, if you search for it on Google Podcasts, the show’s page has an incorrect, low resolution of the show art and the title says, “Uncategorized–A Long Look: Slow Art at the National Gallery.” But the individual episodes show up correctly. The really crazy thing is, I checked the feed and that low resolution image somehow came from my Soundcloud account!

    Here’s the part with the errors:
    <title>Uncategorized – A Long Look: Slow Art at the National Gallery</title>
    <atom:link href=”https://alonglook-slowart.com/category/uncategorized/feed/&#8221; rel=”self” type=”application/rss+xml” />

    </image>

    Does anyone know how this might have happened? More importantly, is there a way to delete this incorrect/outdated result?

    Thanks!

    Do you still have an active feed on Soundcloud? IF so, you may want to do the subscriber redirect to your PowerPress feed.

    Google uses their search bot to add podcasts, and it seems they found the soundcould feed.

    That’s it! There is a Soundcloud feed. Can I just delete the account? I’ve gotten barely any traffic there.

    I would do the redirect first and leave it in place for a couple of weeks.

    Then delete the account if you want.

    There’s one more important step in resolving this and that is to clear the cache of the Google Podcast app.

    Settings>Apps info>Google Podcasts>Storage>Clear Cache. Your path might look a little different but this is the basic idea.

    Hi Mike

    This feed is showing up again in Google Podcasts app and the new Podcasts front page. A couple techs I consulted with said the feed is being generated by my WP site. One said,”Your website is making https://alonglook-slowart.com/category/uncategorized/feed/ automatically – it’s how WordPress works (it makes a bunch of feeds without your knowledge). Mike Dell’s a great WordPress guru, and should know how to stop WordPress from creating this – it’s something every PowerPress user presumably has to deal with.”

    Google suggested adding active blocking tags (e.g., <itunes:block>yes</itunes:block>) in the RSS feed URL (https://alonglook-slowart.com/category/uncategorized/feed/) and blocking GoogleBot from accessing the RSS URL by updating the robots.txt file.

    I don’t know how to access these files to make these fixes. Help?

    Another thought would be to rename the “uncategorized” category to something else, thus changing the address of the category feed (The slug part).

    I don’t know why Google would even find that feed as a podcast feed. You could redirect it to the correct feed as well. That would work, but turning it off is not an option in WordPress normally. If posts exist in that category, then there will be a category feed for that category.

    Maybe try setting PowerPress to “Enhance Main Feed Only” in the feeds tab.

    Hi Mike

    I found “uncategorized” under Posts>Categories and changed it to “Art” and enhanced the main feed only. Fingers crossed, this will fix it!

    Creating the Art category under Posts>Categories seems to have fixed this.

    Good deal!
