    Hello, I recently made a mystile child theme,
    when I installed it via control panel of host gator, the shopping cart icon turned into L symbol and dropdown arrow for my main navigation bar turned into symbols ; and ].

    please click link for picture

    i tried installing mystile child theme via 2 ways and it didn’t work out
    1st. I installed it via hostgator control panel.
    2nd. I installed it via Theme upload on WordPress backend.

    to make the child theme,
    i did these steps.
    1)Opened new file with notepad++ and inserted
    /*
    Theme Name: Mystile Child
    Theme URI: https://www.woothemes.com/
    Description: Child theme for the Mystile theme
    Author: WooThemes
    Author URI: https://www.woothemes.com
    Template: mystile
    Version: 0.1.0
    */

    2)Pasted the CSS sheet from parent theme onto my child theme file and saved it as style.css

    3)Made a functions.php file

    hope you guys can help me solve my problem

    Hello already found solution

    I decided to just install a mystile child theme found on the internet shared by uploadwp here

    [link moderated – unknown source]

    although i still did not know what i did wrong when i made the child theme myself, if someone can point it out to me that would be great

    Child theme info:

    For one thing, the child theme style.css file should not be a copy of the parent file.

    I’d also be careful about downloading files from unknown sources on the internet :)!

    thanks so much for your response, im still trying to wrap my head around this since im still new to using wordpress.

    I have trouble when I activate my Mystile child them.

    The shopping cart icon appears as a british “pound” symbol, and there are extraneous characters at various places around the site, like the lock icon appears as an X. I googled and saw some people have the same problem but I couldn’t find any solution given by anyone. I’ve had to install the parent theme again because my site is not acceptable with the child theme and all the characters it messes up.

    Also after installing child, my menus were messed up, I had to go under menus / Manage Locations and re-select the primary menu and save it.

    Solved, by copying typefaces folder and all its contents from parent mystile folder to under the child folder mystile-child
