First of all I do not have any plugins requiring upgrade.

Every morning I wake up and go to my admin page and see a notice that I have 1 upgrade. When I click the link I am presented with a message that says:

You have the latest version of WordPress.
You have the latest version of WordPress. You do not need to update. However, if you want to re-install version 3.0, you can do so automatically or download the package and re-install manually:

Just for giggles I did the auto re-install to see if the message would go away. No joy. After I dutifully check for the upgrade the upgrade alert disappears for the rest of the day. However, I can count on the notice to be there the next day. Oh and I rebuilt/repaired my database too. No joy.

Is there a solution for this nagging false positive upgrade notice?

  • Try flushing out the _site_transient_update_core option from your options table, WordPress should recreate it for you.

The above option holds data on the current version, last update, etc, sometimes flushing that entry fixes persistent upgrade notices (has done for me previously when i had that problem).

Backup / Export that field beforehand if you like, just as a reassurance you can replace it if WordPress for whatever reason fails to replace it.

No guarantees it will help, it’s just a suggestion that’s worked for me.. ??

I have this problem with 3.0.1 it is really annoying.
