nav-main full width of screen?

I’ve jut used the below to achieve it:

#nav-main {
background: #000;
width: 170%;
float: left;
display: inline;
margin-left: -35%;
margin-right: -35%;
}

I’m just not sure this is the cleanest way to do this?
