• Today after much reliability Nav Menu Roles is no longer hiding the menu headings or pages on my site. I am using Simone theme and WP 5.8.4. Is this just because the WP version is incompatible with the plugin. The step I recently took was wp security health check for https. Is there anything simple I can do to fix it not being a developer. I have tried various settings in Appearance Menus, checked on different pc etc.
    Thank you. H.

Nothing has changed on the NMR side… and I would be highly surprised if the wp_nav_menu() function changed enough to break this plugin’s functionality, certainly not in a minor point release.

That said, I wouldn’t know if this plugin worked with Full Site Editing or block-based menus.. .so if you are using those I couldn’t say how NMR will work out. There’s no admin UI for that part yet, so I don’t think there’s any way to set it up.

I am unfamiliar with the Simone theme and do not provide individual theme support. I would suggest setting up a staging site using https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-staging/ and disabling plugins and also reverting to a default theme to see if any plugins/theme are the source of a potential conflict.

Hi Helga, thanks so much for your response. Simone theme was originally created by Morten Rand-Hendriksen who was a WP trainer on Lynda.com. I was using the classic editor plugin. In case it helps anyone else I used wp security health check to ensure my site was https. I then noticed my sidebars were not working properly and my hidden Menu items were no longer hidden. The sidebar widget control page had changed to block mode. I installed classic widgets which changed that back from block mode and I was manually able to fix the sidebars. I was unable to get Nav Menu to hide all the menu pages it had previously hidden and had to delete those pages. So I’m not sure what triggered the widget block mode but that snuffed the sidebars and footers and probably affected Nav Menu Roles. Thank you for your time and the staging advice, much appreciated. H.

I ran a quick logged in/out test with Simone and the menu item shows as I would expect (hidden for logged out, shown for logged in). Simone is using wp_nav_menu() in the header which should behave the way it always has.

I think your issues are therefore coming from somewhere else. Caching should always be a first suspect. I still don’t have a way to break the menu out of cached pages, so do check on that.

If you have staging, you can go through the tried and true debug process I alluded to earlier… Disable plugins one at a time until the menu begins working again as expected. Switch to a default theme… though in a super cursory look… Simone seems like it should be compatible.
