    Hi

Using a custom child of Storefront theme, I added a menu thru WordPress appearance > menu, added the Woocommerce pages plus a dropdown one under a category I created.

The “shop” item disappears in mobile view of menu, and the page created under the category I added displays as an item with no dropdown. I tried switching to Storefront, but issue is still there.

    Thank you

    Hello @keneso

For the first issue, the “Shop” item disappearing, could be due to a variety of reasons. It could be a CSS issue causing the “Shop” item to be hidden on mobile view, or it could be a conflict with another plugin or theme. To troubleshoot this, please try the following steps:

    1. Clear your website and browser cache.
    2. Deactivate all plugins except WooCommerce and see if the issue persists. If it doesn’t, reactivate your plugins one by one, checking the site after each reactivation to find the conflicting plugin.
    3. If the issue persists even with all plugins deactivated, it may be a theme issue. Try switching to a default WordPress theme like Twenty Twenty-One and see if the problem remains.

Regarding the dropdown menu, this could be a theme-related issue or a WordPress menu structure issue. Can you share with us the website for us to check and some screenshots of how you configured the page and the menu? You may use https://snipboard.io when sharing screenshots. Please follow the instructions on the page, then paste the URL in your reply.

    Looking forward to your response!

    Hi Darla

I have only WC activated, I switched to Storefront theme, and on my device (Android) the issue is still there. Switching to twentyfour the “shop” is displaying.

I think I found the culprit, which is the Storefront of which I was using a custom child: when I set the homepage in WP settings to use the “shop”, Storefront removes it from the menu. Bad design IMO, if a visitor is on any page s/he has to guess the home link is the “shop”.

    Hello @keneso,

Glad to know you were able to figure it out!

which is the Storefront of which I was using a custom child: when I set the homepage in WP settings to use the “shop”, Storefront removes it from the menu.

I’m not able to reproduce this with the default Storefront theme, please check the screenshot below. If there’s something I’m missing, please let us know and we’ll be more than happy to investigate further. :?)

    Hi Saif

Like said the issue occurs when in WP dashboard, under setting > reading you select a static page, and set it to shop – not talking about Woocommerce settings, but Worpress settings. Otherwise you are correct, it does display as per your screenshot.

    Here my screenshots

    Hey @keneso,

    Thanks for clarifying!

You are correct, when changing the static page to “Shop” via Settings → Reading, then the “Shop” menu item is not displayed on mobile.

To fix this, you would need to enable the particular menu for handheld by navigating to Appearance →?Menus and selecting “Handheld” for the specific menu you would like to have displayed on mobile, like so:

If “shop” is added to the menu you have selected as a Handheld menu, then “Shop” should be displayed in the menu on mobile. ??

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Roxy

Thank you, such a simple fix, shem on me; although I am curious about the ratio to differentiate the two menus.

    Cheers

    Hi @keneso,

Thank you, such a simple fix, shem on me; although I am curious about the ratio to differentiate the two menus.

You’re welcome! Don’t worry about it – we’re here to help and sometimes the simplest solutions can be the most elusive.

As for your question about the rationale behind differentiating the two menus, it’s primarily for better user experience and navigation on different devices.

On a desktop, you typically have more screen real estate to work with, so you can afford to display more menu items. However, on mobile, space is limited, and too many menu items can make the navigation cluttered and confusing. That’s why we provide the option to set a separate, more streamlined menu for handheld devices.

It also gives you the flexibility to prioritize certain pages on mobile, perhaps ones that mobile users are more likely to need quick access to.

I hope this clears it up for you. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

    Hi Tamrat

Thanks, I thought it would have been along the lines you described, just needed a confirmation.

Closing this, and again thanks to all.
