As simple as this seems (and it probably is), I can’t seem to figure out how to change my navigation links to get them to look the way I want. I’m using the latest WP version with the Classic theme, and my website is: https://www.traciehowe.com .

I don’t want this to look like a blogging site that I made through wordpress, so if possible I want to get rid of the “entries”, “comments”, and “www.ads-software.com”. I also wanted to hide “site admin” and “log in/out” but I’m not sure how to get around this without losing access to my admin panel.

My other issue is that I want to add some links like “home”, “bio”, etc., that don’t fall under my “Galleries” category.

Building my site has required a lot of trial and error starting from not knowing ANYTHING at all! I’m almost done and this might be the last big issue. So far I’ve only figured out how to delete the entire sidebar! Detailed answers are greatly appreciated!

  • You can use Widgets and then just add the Widget you want displayed in your sidebar.

If you don’t want to use Widgets, then you would need to edit your theme’s sidebar.php and delete references to the Template Tags, such as wp_get_archives().

In that sidebar.php you can also delete the template tag wp_loginout() if you don’t want users to see that. If WordPress is installed in your web-root folder, then https://www.yourdomain.com/wp-login.php is how you can login.

Also look at Pages to understand the concept for adding things like ‘About’ or whatever.

Thanks so much! Actually, I tried accessing my site today and everything that i wanted to be gone is suddenly gone! Strange since I don’t remember doing anything that actually worked…unless maybe there was some sort of delay when I was trying out different options?

Anyway, I have added new pages, but I still have the link category dilemma. I have added an “information” link category, so that I can include “about”, “home”, etc. and so it matches the fact that I have a “Galleries” link category. I am not able to add any new pages, links, categories or whatever under this link category. If I add a link and select the category “information”, it doesn’t do anything. So far all of my links are under “galleries”. Arrggghhh!!!

I really don’t want to make a separate page for Gallery links that you have to navigate back to. Does anybody have any suggestions for my category/ link problem?

If anyone might be helped by this in the future…

I was getting the difference between my pages, links, categories, etc. all confused with each other. By simply listing “pages” and sorting them under groups that I created with a great plug-in: NAVT ( download at https://atalayastudio.com/), I have solved my problem!
