    Hello,

    I am new to WordPress.
I am working currently on a localhost (not live / online)

I am building a website (as opposed to a blog).
So far I have created a number of pages with content, and built a lovely drop-down navigation menu for the site.

Sadly whenever I select one of the menu items, it gives me a 404 not found error.

When I look in the directories, there is no sign of any actual pages ?!

I have exhausted myself doing google and youtuube searches and am hoping someone here can help?

I am currently running it on a localhost (wampserver).
    My files are in c:/wamp/www/gayundah/

    Thank you so much.

Wow this is down on page 5 already….. I really need help with this one guys’n’girls.

I’m totally stumped and this is the current major impediment to me making further progress on my site.

    Thanks

Hmm OK I found out more about how WP works.

WordPress pages and directories are virtual and not actual physical items. When you visit a post, page or archive it load the appropriate template from your theme and then get the content from you database. No actual directories or physical pages are created.

SO that’s that (makes it hard forme to head my head around how it works, but anyway…)

That still leaves me with the issue of a non-working menu!

Try resetting your permalinks – Settings > Permalinks – press Save.

Did you create a menu as in:

    Thanks.

I’ll try the permalinks thing when I get home.

And yes that’s exactly how I did the menu. It appears on the site when I run it (locally at least) but the links don’t work resulting in aforementioned 404 errors.

Okay, post back when you’ve tried it. BTW, what theme are you using and do you have any plugins active?

Thanks, I can’t recall the name of the them (except that its a 2014 child theme IIRC) I’ll have to check that as well.

I am however considering a number of different themes.
The problem was there whether or not any plugins were activated.

I’ll post again once I’ve tried the above.

    Cheers.

Thanks for your help. I say the Perma links to default and is working now. None of the other link portions would work though.

    Cheers

Thanks @wpyogi – this worked a treat for me!
