• I simply want to get traffic to my blog. I am not a code writer. I do not know what a plug in is or how to put one into my blog, although I have read instructions and tried. There is no definition of its basic function.

When I go to the forums, they require that I know jargon. I’ve tried to find out about RSS, plug ins, or verifications. I’ve tried to use them, but am not successful. Then I go back to the forum and of course, there is no answer.. I have to wait for weeks then I’ve forgotten where I was in the process. I follow links and get dumped on pages, then have no idea what to do next.

Is there anyone who can help me do what I need to do? Simple instructions like:
    Go here.
    Take this.
    Put it there.
    or follow this link: blah
    then click on this: blah
then read this and do the following: blah

It takes someone who knows how to explain things to do this, I know. I have a lot of written material on WordPress and have no idea how to get it out there. I know the information is here but I need a translator.

    Anyone?

  • What exactly do you need help with?

I need to figure out how to drive traffic to my blogs. There are several options, none of which I’ve been able to successfully use. Email plugins? RSS feeds? I don’t know what will work.

I would like to put an email subscription form on it, which I’m assuming is a plug in, but I don’t know where to get it or where to put it once I get it.

And I’d like to know what an RSS feed is, but I haven’t found an explanation that isn’t jargon-loaded that I can make sense of.

And wordpress forums in particular are especially jargon loaded. They assume that anyone who asks a question can write CSS.

Can you link out your website? It’s going to be easier for others to help you if we have idea of what we have to work with.

Also, yes you can use an email subscription plugin. In order to find the right plugin I suggest that you go from your WordPress Dashboard to Plugins > Add New > then search for ‘Email Subscription’ or ‘Subscribe’. After you search, you can see what plugins are available. We obviously can’t make the decision for you, so you must choose which plugin your prefer based on your preferences. Once you’ve chosen one, you can come back and ask for help on how to get the plugin to work with your website.

An RSS feed basically helps a reader of your website stay up to date with the most current content that you upload to your website.

Okay, this is one of them: https://bestkeptsecretmuseums.wordpress.com/ I tried using the widgets on this site, but I couldn’t seem to get them to work. I’ve used them on my other sites, and they worked fine.

With an RSS feed, how do readers receive the information that there’s new content on the website? And when I look at using one on a site, what it asks me for, I don’t know what to put there.

Also, is there a way to make separate mailing lists or combine lists for readers of different blogs? I have several on different subjects and would like to let readers know I write on other subjects.

And thank you for your help.

I went to Plugins and there was no Add New option. There was only Plugin Directory.

Looks like your site is on WordPress.COM – in which case you cannot use any plugins ever – see:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

And support for WordPress.COM is not here – these forums are for the self-hosted version of WordPress.

    Try here:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/

This would also be a good place to start:

And not finding the dashboard.. finding pictures of the dashboard but no link.. handy that.

    Thanks anyways~
