• I wan’t a theme that only got the top level menus.

It’s just for “advertising” a friend to help her get work and it only needs to contain 3-4 pages in the top menu

  • You’ll just have to look harder, won’t you. Nobody is going to waste their time doing it for you, only to maybe find something you don’t like.

I think what goggel wants is “tips for better searching” … that’s what I am looking for – i am trying to search by theme – e.g. sports, golf, tennis, etc. combined with specific parameters, e.g. widget-ready, three-colums, etc. and I’m getting nowhere.

The Themes section used to be searchable by various criteria. It also offered the ability to browse all themes. This is no longer the case. I, too, would like some tips on how best to search the new Themes area.

To search by tag go to –>https://www.ads-software.com/extend/themes/tags/

To view theme by theme click “Newest Themes” and you’ll be presented with a list of themes with a navigation link at the bottom of the page.

jannyp was corect, it was more a question for an existing theme. But the search of themes isn’t good enough.

Don’t you people understand that any theme can be used for any topic? Themes should be selected based on how you want your site to display. 2 column, 3 column, graphical, textural, with footers, without footers, etc. etc. Themes are made to be *customized* by the user to what they want. Nobody is going to waste their time designing a theme that is intended for one purpose and one purpose only.

For crying out loud, I wish people would stop this bellyaching about insignificant crap and use some initiative! Find a LAYOUT you like, and then CUSTOMIZE IT to suit what you want in the end. That is why themes are no longer organized by specific topics – because any theme can be customized to suit any purpose. Users are expected to learn something about coding.

Feeling a little grumpy are we, Saurus? I always look for structure when choosing a theme, because it’s just a starting point for modification. Certainly not colors or images. Sheesh. The old interface was searchable by number of columns, left or right sidebar, unusual, etc. I don’t see what was wrong with that approach. Maybe I’d better go look at the tags, & get enlightened.

    That did it, all right.

In fact, while I’m bellyaching about all this insignificant crap, let me add this about the problem I see with the WP Themes section: Most of the themes are nearly identical, using a few variations on the same basic layout, and merely swapping out graphics and color schemes. A Theme Gallery I’d like to see would be more about different types of layouts, and less about decoration. It would be a gallery of remodeling WordPress for different purposes, not just redecorating it. That would be a lot more interesting. I already know how to swap graphics and tweak style sheets. I’d like more examples of structural remodeling, without a lot of colors and graphics obscuring the structure.
