Need a type of "recent posts" on my website

  • Hi!

    I would like to add a “Recent post” thingy to my homepage. A list of my most recent posts. I would like it to be like the sidebar widget with the title “Senaste nytt” on https://www.alliansfrittsverige.nu . That looks nice and neat. I don’t want to to be in the sidebar thought, I want it to be on the actual homepage.

    I also want the same thing but with the most recent comments on my site.

    I would be very very thankful if anyone could help me with this!

  • You’d need a custom template for your home page with a couple of custom loops. How confident are you with PHP?

    Thank you for your answer!

    I am not very confident, been changing the .php files a bit but not too much.

    The thing is, I already have a homepage and just want to add this feature. The homepage is not using the standard template. Do i really need to change the whole template just to add this feature?

    If you want custom loops, then yeah. You could, maybe, create custom widget areas on your homepage template and then populate them with plugins that do what you want.

    Thanks for the answer again, I’ve been researching and found that i will go for the option to try to create a custom widget area and use a plugin to get it looking like that. Is there anyway to find out what plugin they have been using in my example from my first post? I really like the fact that more text shows while hovering over the links.

    You can add a sidebar into the template and add a latest posts widget to that sidebar. It will be a little bit of work to figure out, but it will probably be eaiser then getting into custom loops, etc.

    As a note, sidebars don’t have to be on the side of the site, they can be anywhere. “Sidebar” is just a convenient name for them so that people can understand what they are.

    Yeah, i will go with that option. Found a good youtube tutorial to guide me through how to do it. Is there any way of finding out which plugin is used for the “Senaste nytt” topic on the sidebar on the page https://www.alliansfrittsverige.nu ?

    I really like that design.
