Need a working login widget

I was using custom wp login widget last summer and it worked just fine. Since I upgraded to 3.4.2 it does not work and the developer says he is not longer supporting it. I have tried a few others and the Login with Ajax plugin looked like it would work great, but unfortunately it too does not recognize a login. Others seem to have a problem with it as well. I upgraded my wp to 3.5.1 and still no luck. It seems like it really should not be that difficult to have a login widget, but I am stumped.

Anyone have a solution?
