Need advice on happy-hour related site (theme/plugin)

  • Hello everyone!

    I don’t know who to really ask since I am a WordPress newbie (learning it right now), but was wondering if anyone could suggest a theme and/or plugins that may work for a happy-hour related site?

    Our company recently acquired a website and the managing partner was curious to see if it was something that could be recreated on WordPress. From what I understand, it’s currently built on PHP and the database mainly consists of drink recipes (~10k), establishments & their happy hour listings (~8k) and drinking games.

    (Jan – I am very sorry if this is not the right place to ask this question…just signed up on this forum today & hope to get some advice)

    Someone on my team posted the same question on another WP forum, so hopefully we get some feedback ??

  • Hi Lisa,

    yes, something like this can be achieved in wordpress, but not sure if you can handle it out of the box with a free theme + plugins.

    Plugins I could think of are:
    – WP Types Plugin to handle your different content types.
    – Any SEO plugin
    – Any Advanced Search Plugin
    – Any good Caching plugin

    For the frontend, I recommend either building a custom theme with a wp professional, or looking for some very versatile premium theme with good support.

    Also, I recommend a proper wp host.

    It’s certainly doable. Once you work out the data architecture and functionality, I don’t think it would be that hard. Probably the most effort would go into searching for nearby establishments using geolocation and geo-search plugins. Also, to take some of burden off yourself, some tools to allow establishments to update their own information.

    But it’s all doable. Find a good WP developer!

    Thank you Steven! As you mentioned, it’s the data architecture we are most concerned about. Particularly finding the best (safest) way to transfer the existing data (8k establishments & their happy hour info along with the 10k drink recipes in particular) to the WP Platform.

    Hi Lisa,

    if I may suggest, get a proper WP developer who has at least 3-5 years of experience at least on a consulting level. It will save you time and money.

    When you’ve got all the proper stuff in place, the “pro” plugin, wpallimport is a great way to add content to a WordPress site if you can get the data in CSV, XML, or json formats.

    Thank you both again! The “WP All Import” plugin seems like something else that would be again. Very nice ??
