Need an Announcement Plugin (preferable pop up) across installations

  • Hi everyone.

    Because of budget cuts our school system can no longer afford our CMS for school websites so I am using wordpress to create a site for each of our 19 schools.

    I need a way to have an announcement that would appear across installations– (schools releasing early etc)- but I plan to do separate installations for each school. Anyway to make this happen?

    Separate installations are possible with a network. (There you’ll be able to add separate sites, but manage the themes, plugins and users across all the websites.)

    Announcements across the board will not be possible just like that – I think – but you can set up a separate announcements site and import the RSS feed from that website to a page or widget on the other websites.

    If you need to explore a more sophisticated solution, you may want to look into the FeedWordPress plugin and/or the WP Rest API.

    It’s not technically impossible to show a single annoucement across all the sites in a situation such as a weather-related closing, but I don’t know of a plugin that does this. It may require custom code.
