I will preface this topic with saying that I have gone through the codex, I have searched, read other sites and other topic posts, and I am still confused so please do not direct me back to the codex and the search function. ??

My blog has been “attached” to my website since I started it, about 2 years ago. (https://www.web-betty.com/blog/) I have finally purchased the domain name web-betty-blog.com and would like to move the blog here permanently. I am so confused, however, by all the information that I’ve read, and I can’t tell what pertains to my situation and what doesn’t.

The same host is hosting all 3 of my domain names. I assume this means the servers are the same? Do I have to change my database? Can’t I just make sure the URI is correct in my WP files, upload them to web-betty-blog.com, and go?

    Some other information:

    • I have backed up my database.
    • I did FTP all of the WP files to another location on my hard drive as a backup.
    • Right now, web-betty-blog.com is redirecting to web-betty.com/blog/, but would prefer this not be a long-term solution.

If anyone could provide some simplified instructions or a link to some simplified instructions, I would be very grateful. (I have 2 blogs I need to do this to.)

    Thanks!

You assume wrong– When you set up new hosting for a domain, the web host provides the necessary info, which may or may not be on the same server as other domains you might have hosted with them.

Unless your new domain is set up as an ‘addon domain’ in which case the new domain would live in the same filespace as the older domains.

None of that matters, anyway, except that you need to know where to put your web accessible files, which in this case, happen to be wordpress files.

Do I have to change my database?

Define what you mean by ‘change’, and someone can answer you.

Can’t I just make sure the URI is correct in my WP files, upload them to web-betty-blog.com, and go?

have you tried this to see?
