Need Categories Displayed In Question Navigator

I need to make a few changes to minor elements of the UI. Specifically, I want to divide the list of question numbers that shows “answered” “review” etc. (question navigator) at the top of the quiz to have sections according to question category. Also, for some quizzes, I need the list to be vertical (lame requirement, I know, but that’s how it is).
I am open to doing the changes myself (esp. the category one) and posting to the plugin for everyone to use, but I would need some guidance as this is my first time using wordpress. Is there a way to get in touch with the developer for guidance on how I could do this?
p.s. Also need support for negative marking (reducing marks from total) if you get a question wrong (would need to remove the >=0 values allowed somewhere?). Can you help?
